Have you ever wanted a place where you feel like you just, belong? You don’t overthink it, there’s no rush or worry. Seeing and Being Seen doesn’t mean we’re secretly watching you. Or does it? Hmm. I’ll leave you to guess. For your sake, stay away from any windows.
You can be sure, though, that this is a place where you don’t have to be out, to be loud and proud.
Honestly, my entire life I’ve always felt like everywhere I go, I have to wear this coat of protection, this cover, hiding the world away from the real me, because I’m afraid of what they would think. Would they like the real me? At first, I thought, maybe it’s because I haven’t really fully accepted myself; maybe it’s the internal homophobia at work again, doing its level best. Does internal homophobia really ever let us go? Then I realize how comfortable I feel when I’m alone. Well, kind of. I really would like to get these round beauties off my chest. I mean, yes, I was made beautiful and in the Creator’s image. Seriously, though? Wrong location!
Being yourself is one of the basic needs. Right next to food, clothing and shelter. Fashion, for one, is a way to express yourself. “If you’re queer and can’t dress, what were you doing in the closet that whole time?” - Queer people to each other.
It’s a way you can be you without having to say a single word. The committee here at SABS has decided that fashion is the “Bat Signal” for queer people. I’m still 50% in the closet and 50% out of it, that’s why my fashion choices are questionable, but I’m not looking to argue. I just don’t have a good view is all I’m saying. I’m at the edge of the door, maybe if some of you would stop ordering all those corsets (I said what I said), we’d all fit.
Love,
Miles
